Factions of Siflige

The Lucinian Forces

Adrift from Siflige, past the Wyrm Forest, through the Wyrm Caves, you come to this dark, dank, evil, cursed city. Rather than attempt to explain it we shall quote directly from a history of Lucinia itself. 'Once, the city of Lucinia was a beacon of hope and prosperity. Built on the foundations of an ancient elven city, Lucinadeldrom, the human city of Lucinia was a major port of call along the Winding Water. For many years, Lucinia was prosperous. It was ruled by a council of elders, known as The Keepers. However, during times of war, Lucinia was ruled by the High Marshall of the Militia, the City's general. His rule during war was absolute, but he was required to end his dictatorship once the war ended. For a long time, this system worked. Occasionally, the High Marshall would try to prolong the war, but, for the most part, the Marshalls were honest folk who loved their city. That was, until Thredius Hellesing came. He was the child of two noble families, but was a bastard, unrecognized by his father, due to political reasons. Although of noble birth, Hellesing was denied position within the city, because there was controversy over his mother and fathers relationship. She had been his mistress, while he was married to one of the Keepers daughters. Denied power throuch conventional routes, Thredius turned to Arcanistry. There, he found the power he sought, but not the limitations he needed. He delved into Dark Arts, read forbidden tomes. He even found a copy of The Book of Vile Darkness, that most hated and despised Grimoire. Thredius became a Necromancer of the First Caliber. He followed the Black Path of Necromancy, using the powers he wielded over life and death to further himself. Beneath the streets of Lucinia, Hellesings forces of death grew. Unknown to the city, a dark threat had risen, not from without, but within. By careful manipulation by Thredius, certain events fell into place. The son of one of the Keepers was found dead, killed by the dagger of a different noble family. This sparked what would become a civil war within the city of Lucinia. It was then that Thredius came forward. He quashed the fighting in the streets with his own forces, and declared that, if the people wanted peace, he would serve as High Marshall of the Militia. Seeing that he had, in fact, saved the city, the Keepers reluctantly allowed him the position. Soon after that, under the influence of Thredius, a small excursionary band from the nearby city of Uthiel engaged with the forces of Lucinia. Thredius declared Martial Law, and became the military dictator of Lucinia. His edicts were barbaric and destructive. He had his political enemies destroyed. The Keepers were disbanded. He declared himself the King of Lucinia. In an effort to stop Thredius, the Head Keeper, Garalus Exel, a mage of some power, layed a curse on Thredius. "You who wish nothing more than to rule, You shall have your way, but all you shall rule is death." Garalus was killed for his treasonous words, as were the rest of his family. Soon after, the city of Uthiel actually DID attack, catching Thredius unprepared. In an effort to stop them, Thredius fulfilled the curse. He enacted a ritual that killed all of the people in Lucinia, save the nobility. They became extremely powerful undead warriors. The nobility were transformed into evil Lycanthropes. However, their wills were too strong for Thredius to control. Although Uthiel was beaten back by the Undead and Lycanthropic tide, Thredius realized his error. He tried to flee, but was only able to make it as far as the Arena before he was torn to shreds by the creatures he made. It is said that still on his body was the item which allowed for the destruction of the city. Originally an artifact with the power to cure, Thredius tainted it, and made it into something to destroy.'
